Yesterday James Gunn announced that he changed the title of his upcoming film Superman Legacy to just Superman. Some fans feel this may confuse people with the 1978 Christopher Reads Superman film, being the same name and all. Although people with the correct knowledge of the film would know it’s referred to as Superman the Movie. As for why James Gunn chose to do this, he stated – When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Also, the picture at the top is the first teaser James Gunn put out there, the teaser features Superman’s red and gold Kingdom come Logo. The main reason why James Gunn did this is because on that day he released the teaser (29th of February) which was Superman’s birthday.
The explanation from James Gunn on why he changed the title makes sense to me. He’s also announced that the film would make way in cinemas in July 2025, a more specific date will be Warner Bros has said that the film is set to release on July 11, 2025. So James Gunn originally calling it Superman Legacy after the first draft, suggests that he was focused on the life of Superman having a long-lasting impact on events and actions. This may still be the case, but when he locked onto the final draft he changed the title suggesting that something in the story changed his mind. So we’re left with thinking could the movie be different on how we interpreted the original name for the movie but with a change that led it to drop the Legacy from the name?

What was interesting?
It was interesting to see characters such as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardners Green Lantern, Mister Terrififc, Metamorpho, and Supergirl. A lot of questions are being asked about this, the main one being how will these characters get introduced and what part will they play in the story. Some speculations suggest that it’ll make up a small Justice League, some suggest they will be introduced to help Superman on his journey, and some suggest that they will be introduced by being interviewed by Lois. Asking them questions about being a superhero, what it means to be one, and what they think of Superman coming in as a new Superhero extra.
My thoughts
I think the idea of Lois interviewing the charters is a great way to introduce them in the upcoming Superman film. It makes sense as James Gunn mentioned that Superman will be like the new kid in town in the film. I’m not sure what other roles they might play in the story except for Metamorpho, who I think will have a bigger part in the narrative based on his casting. Additionally, based on the red and gold symbol picture of Superman Kingdom Come, it appears that they are filming scenes in the fortress of solitude, judging by the ice dust on the logo.
James Gunn has also announced yesterday that they have begun filming. Based on recent news, we know that the budget for the film is over $363 million, which is almost as high as Avengers Endgame’s budget. Such a high budget means that the film is expected to be very good and do well at the box office, much like Endgame did.
